When Will I See Results?

Weight loss - When will I see Results?

This weeks F.A.Q. is a question I often get either just before or just after a new client signs up with me: When will I see results?

This is always a great question because it creates a perfect opportunity to begin the process of managing my clients expectations.

When I take on a new client they are given several forms and questionnaires to fill out to give me an overview of things such as what they’re after, what they’ve tried and where they currently are in their life and health so that I can design them an effective programme to get them the quickest, safest and most sustainable results possible.

One of the questions I ask is: Which type of progress is more important to you? Immediate progress which is less easily maintained or Maintainable progress that may not be as rapid?

Just this question alone gives me great insight into the type of personality the client has and their mentality towards achieving their goals. It also gives an indication of how ‘aggressive’ our approach may need to be in order for the client to be happy with their results.

Now the reality of the situation is this, your results will be completely individual. For example, I could take on 2 new clients with the same goals and give them the exact same recommendations to follow and their bodies response to the programme may be completely different.

For example, Client No. 1 may lose 4lbs of Body Fat in 2 weeks and Client No.2 may only lose 0.5lbs.

So although it’s not always possible to predict exactly how much progress and individual will make in a given time frame the reality of the situation is that your results will come as soon as you put in the effort required to achieve the results you want.

Wanting to lose 1lb of body fat a week obviously requires much more effort than losing 1lb of body fat a month.

But providing you’re willing to put in the effort and make the required changes, losing 1lb of body fat per week is very achievable if you are overweight or obese.

It is possible to lose more than this each week, especially in the early days but it’s important not to be too drastic and take extreme measures when trying to lose weight as these results will likely not be sustainable and could even be detrimental to your health if followed for too long. Plus you have the fact that you’ll likely gain your weight back – and often with a vengeance – after any extreme attempt at weight loss.

So when will you see results?

As soon as you make the necessary changes….

One of the best ways to achieve your health and/or body transformation goals is to forget the goal and instead focus on your behaviours.

For instance, you may have a goal to lose 30lbs of fat. Push this to the back of your mind and instead focus on achieving the changes you need to make in order to get there. For example:

  • If you currently do not exercise you will need to become more active
  • If you eat lots of sugary processed foods these will have to be significantly cut down or eliminated
  • You may have to increase your intake of quality meats and fish
  • You may actually have to increase your dietary fat intake (healthy fats of course)
  • As well as increase your fruit and veg intake.

Just these changes alone can have a significant impact on both your health and your physique but remember the more you put in the more you get out so only changing one of these points over the next month won’t achieve as much as changing 2-3 or even all of these points.

The key to success when it does to changing your nutrition and lifestyle habits is to start where you’re at and to start small. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Lots of small changes over time can create massive results.
